"THE ROLE OF MEDIA IN DEVELOPMENT IN COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES" |
|
The centrepiece of the Commonwealth People’s Forum (CPF) in Kampala, 18-22
November, was a series of twenty interactive workshops run by coalitions of
Civil Society Organizations. Attendees at the workshop, who included TV and
print journalists, radio producers, communicators and online media specialists
from around the Commonwealth, discussed the role of communication in
development, shared best practice and discussed ways to build up a unified
commonwealth communications strategy to allow the best of communication to
impact development and policy. During the first session, Yocomm presented a best
practice case study to the delegates. Although the discussion ranged widely, the
major themes that emerged from group one were the importance of planning and
working together on communications issues at Commonwealth level. It was
recommended that YOCOMM be allocated the important role of the building of
capacity for those organizations without the skills, knowledge or resources to
participate at a Commonwealth level. |
