Founded in 1868, the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) is
an educational charity and international organisation working to promote knowledge
and appreciation of the modern Commonwealth. The RCS is non-political and independent
of governments. HM the Queen is our patron and our headquarters are in
London
. However, there is a world-wide network of self governing
RCS branches and Commonwealth societies, affiliated
organisations and individual
members in around one hundred countries and territories. Total global membership
of the RCS is around 10,000. Representatives of the RCS “family” come together for
the RCS International Meeting, which is held every two years in a Commonwealth member
country.
This year, the meeting will be held in
Larnaca
,
Cyprus
between 21 and 24 September, directly after the Nkabom
Youth Leadership Programme in
Nicosia
. The theme is ‘Conflict, Conquest and Migration’ and 70
delegates are expected to come from all corners of the Commonwealth.
The meeting will be opened by the Minister of Education
and Culture, representing the President of Cyprus.
