Scientists in Kenya aim to save white rhinoceros from extinction via IVF

Scientists based in Kenya are trying to ensure the survival of the white rhinoceros subspecies via in vitro fertilisation. The last white male rhino, named Sudan, died in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy two years ago. But using his sperm and the eggs of the two surviving female white rhinos, they have created white rhino embyros. Kenya: Inside State's Mega Plans to Revive the Ailing Sugar Sector

Plans by the government to turn around the fortunes of State-owned sugar factories involve waiving of debts of struggling millers in Western and Nyanza regions and the leasing out of five millers. Kenya extends curfew for a month as COVID-19 cases jump

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta extended a nightly curfew on Monday for 30 days to curb the spread of COVID-19 and banned alcohol sales in restaurants but stopped short of locking down the country again despite a surge in cases. The curfew had been due to be lifted on Aug. 6 or 7. Kenya has so far reported 17,975 cases of infection with the new coronavirus and 285 deaths from the related disease COVID-19. President Kenyatta commends progress in South Sudan peace process

President Uhuru Kenyatta has commended parties to the South Sudan peace process for the progress achieved in recent months despite the health and economic difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The President underscored the setting up of the executive arm of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU), the agreement on responsibility sharing at state level as well as the appointments of state Governors as key success indicators in the peace process.
