Primary, secondary schools reopen in Cameroon

More than two months after suspension of classes due to the coronavirus in Cameroon, primary and secondary school students returned to school on Monday. The government is facing criticism for weak measures to combat spread of the virus in one of the most affected countries in sub-Saharan Africa. With masks on, students returned to school in the capital Yaound?. Sanitary kits have been made available. “So, this morning at the entrance, we gave masks to all the students, each teacher will also receive a mask. We also have alcohol-based gels”, said Seyapdje Maurice, Deputy Headmaster of Deido High school.

Dangote Cement supports Cameroon's fight against Covid-19

Nigerian cement-manufacturing company Dangote has handed over personal protection equipment (PPE) kits worth 100-million CFA francs to Cameroon’s ministry of public health to support health-care workers on the front line in the country's fight against Covid-19. Cameroon has been fighting the novel coronavirus for several weeks, and a number of corporate organisations are contributing towards this battle, which requires a lot of resources, according to Nairametrics, a financial resource company based in Nigeria.

AFDB approves above $43.46 million grants for bridge linking Cameroon and Chad

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved grants worth about $43.46 million for the construction of a bridge to connect Cameroon and Chad across the Logone river. The grants, comprising a $22.586 million tranche for Cameroon and $20.880 million for Chad, were approved on April 30. The facility is from the Investment Facility for Africa under a framework agreement between the Bank Group and the European Commission.

Cameroon all set to join the ATI

Cameroon has just taken a big step towards its goal to enter into the capital of the African Trade Insurance (ATI) Agency. Indeed, on March 9, 2020, the Minister of Economy, Alamine Ousmane Mey, signed a XAF7.4 billion loan agreement with Nikolaos Milianitis, Director of the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the Central African region. The said loan, with an interest rate of 7.49%, is intended to cover Cameroon's contribution to the capital of the African Trade Insurance (ATI) Agency.
