Education occupies an unique position among all the sectors with which National
Governments and Global Institutions are concerned. It is recognized as a
fundamental human right, an essential process for personal and National economic
growth and development. |

“The key to unlocking human potential, and creating opportunity, is
education. Education is sometimes described as the golden thread that binds the
Commonwealth. Our shared use of a common, world language - English - has
underpinned a long and rich tradition of education co-operation. “

"FUND RASING AND DONATIONS OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS BY PUPILS OF
WESTCOT PRIMARY SCHOOL IN HULL" |
The question has always been, how ‘common’ is what we share in the Commonwealth? Across the Westcott Primary school in Hull, England have put value in the term Common-Wealth of Education with the help of their teacher-Mrs Ann Augustyn. The pupils have been raising funds and collecting donated educational materials to be presented to students of Holy Child School in Tema, Ghana.

Promoting the "COMMON" wealth of EDUCATION |
The pupils of Westcott Primary school in Hull, England have put value in the term Common-Wealth of Education with the help of their teacher-Mrs Ann Augustyn. The pupils have been raising funds and collecting donated educational materials to be presented to students of Holy Child School in Tema, Ghana. |
It all started when Ann visited Ghana couple of years ago through an exchange programme. She was a guest at the British Council whiles teaching in Ghana and when she was invited to take a class at Holy Child School, a more deprived school she would not miss the opportunity to see at grass root level basic education from the flashy classroom of a more endowed school. |
At Holy Child School she had was a piece of chalk and a sand-concrete face of a wall to be a board on which to write on and class of eighty hungry pupils to teach. She was so much touched by the plight of these students that she promised on her return to England, her home country she and pupils of her school will raise funds and collect other educational materials for this school. |
It was her publicity in the Hull Print, the local newspaper that got me involved in raising funds for the school. As member of Yocomm and a Ghanaian national i have organised the Ghanaian community as well participated in the Lord Mayor’s parade during the weekend to raise funds for this worthy cause. |
In the next two moths there are three other programmes planned and finally the forty-foot container will be in Ghana in August in time for the great presentation. |
We are still raising funds and every little help will be much appreciated.
Let us promote the ‘Common’ wealth of EDUCATION
