Queen returns to Uganda after 53 years

The Queen flew into Uganda yesterday for the first time in more than half a century and received a rapturous welcome from cheering crowds, many holding posters of her and waving branches of green leaves in welcome.

The monarch, who arrived from a short break in Malta to celebrate her diamond wedding anniversary, was whisked from an upgraded Entebbe airport in a black Range Rover to an official meeting with President Museveni, members of his Cabinet and a host of other dignitaries at the nearby Entebbe State House.

Prince Charles tours Uganda shantytown

KAMPALA, Uganda, Nov. 24 Prince Charles of Britain, in what could be the start of a campaign to become head of the Commonwealth of Nations, visited a Kampala slum.

The prince met two former prostitutes in a program to train sex workers in other jobs and got a lesson in condom use Friday from a public health nurse, The Times of London reported.

Prince Charles to visit war-ravaged northern Uganda

Britain's Prince Charles is to visit war-ravaged northern Uganda where a two-decade long insurgency has left over 1.4 million people homeless, a Ugandan official said on Tuesday.

Sam Nahamya, permanent secretary of the Tourism Ministry told reporters on Tuesday that Prince Charles will travel to the war- torn region during his official visit to Uganda prior to the Commonwealth Head's of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held here next month.

Prince of Wales to visit Uganda

LONDON, Nov. 3 Royal watchers says Prince Charles' visit to Africa is a quiet sign he is being prepared for a more prominent role after the Queen's death.

Charles will accompany his mother to Uganda later this month for the summit of Commonwealth leaders, who head the African countries that once were British colonies, Britain's Telegraph reported Saturday.

Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II, is head of the 53-nation Commonwealth of Britain and its former colonies. Charles is heir to the throne - but not necessarily to leadership of the group. Some question whether he commands the popularity and respect to hold together one of the world's most diverse international alliances, whose member nations are home to almost 2 billion people on five continents.

Uganda: KKL Impresses Prince Charles

KAMPALA Kids League (KKL) and The Kids League (TKL), Uganda, gave Prince Charles some football lessons when he visited the Nakasero headquarters last Friday.
