HM Queen Elizabeth concludes Uganda visit

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second has today concluded her state visit to Uganda during which she opened the Kampala 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting at Kampala Serena Hotel yesterday has left for home.The Queen and her husband Prince Philip were seen off at Entebbe International Airport this afternoon by President Yoweri Museveni and his wife Mrs. Janet Museveni.Others at the airport to bid farewell to the Queen were the Vice-President Professor Gilbert Bukenya, the Minister of Internal Affairs Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, the Head of Public Service Mr. John Mitala, the Chief of the Defence Forces General Aronda Nyakairima, the Inspector General of Police Major General Kale Kayihura, Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija and senior government officials.
During her 4-day stay in Uganda, Queen Elizabeth addressed the Ugandan legislature, visited Mildmay International which looks after HIV/AIDS orphaned children besides being hosted to a State banquet by President Yoweri Museveni and his wife at State House, Nakasero.
The Queen, who is the titular Head of the Commonwealth last evening hosted a dinner Kampala Serena Hotel in honour of Heads of Government of the member countries of the Commonwealth that are in Uganda for the their meeting. The 3-day CHOGM summit is scheduled to end tomorrow Sunday 25th November 2007. |
